Hi ,
Tutored Tastings – Penfold’s and Guigal
While there’s a beer drought this month, wine tasters have never had it better! Next Monday 16th we taste three vintages of Penfold’s legendary Grange...details here. We’ve also got Guigal Cote Roties on Thursday the 19th which include the ‘06 La Las, and Jane Ferrari from Yalumba tonight
. Also last chance for whisky tasters, Coastal Xtreme is full on the 25th, but there are 5 places left on the 18th(as of this writing). Be quick!
Doing it at a canter
In a timely boost for New Zealand’s UK reputation, Escarpment Kupe, Dog Point Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc and Trinity Hill Homage Syrah are on the cover of Decanter magazine. See who else made the Top 20 here…
Saturdays@Regional: instore tastings with Martinborough Vineyards and Ohau Gravels
After last Saturday’s frivolity with our ‘Tour de France,’ we’re keeping it local in preparation for Wellington on a Plate. We have Martinborough Vineyards and Ohau Gravels in store on Saturday from 11am-4pm, showing the magic they’ve been making with cool-climate grape varieties.
Check out Raymond’s round up of our top end Rioja tasting here.
Blog – the Buck stops here
You may have heard about the council trying to stop Te Mata’s John Buck from making alterations to his own house. Read about it here (or maybe just show your solidarity by buying some Te Mata wine). Just yesterday we tried their new Woodthorpes over Yum Char…review here
What we’re drinking this week…
Try saying this three times fast…or even once slowly. Bischofliche Priesterseminar Trittenheimer Apotheke Riesling Spatlese 2007. This Mosel number is almost as complex as its name and has nice low alcohol so any mispronunciation will be solely down to you not sprekenzing zie Deutsch. For those who don’t touch whites in winter, we’ve been sipping Instinct Syrah 2008, which goes better with venison than tea goes with biscuits.
